A sacred rite of passage in the Anglican Church. Baptism marks the beginning of our Spiritual Journey and Entrance into the Holy Community of Christians Worldwide

What is Baptism?
Baptism, often referred to as Christening, denotes the same service. It is a sacrament within the Anglican Church and one of the two dominical sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ. Baptism symbolises the washing away of sin, a new birth in the Holy Spirit, and the beginning of a new life in Christ. Through Baptism, we are adopted into God’s family, the Church, and called to share in His eternal Kingdom.

The Significance of Baptism for Anglicans:
For Anglicans, Baptism is not simply a formality; it is a profound expression of faith and a commitment to following Jesus Christ. It represents:

  • A Covenant with God: Baptism signifies entering into a covenant with God, committing to follow Christ and uphold the Church’s beliefs and practices.
  • A Sign of Faith: It demonstrates an individual’s acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
  • Community and Belonging: Baptism welcomes the individual into the Anglican community, where we support one another in our faith journeys.

How is Baptism Celebrated?
Baptism uses water as a symbol of purification and can be performed by immersion, affusion (pouring), or aspersion (sprinkling). During the ceremony, promises are made by the candidates, or in the case of infants, by their parents and godparents. The congregation also pledges to support those being baptised as they grow spiritually.

Planning a Baptism:
To plan a Baptism at our Church, we encourage you to:

  1. Speak with the Reverend: They will guide you through the process and discuss the significance of Baptism in your life and your child’s.
  2. Choose Godparents: Godparents play a crucial role in the spiritual education and growth of the baptised individual. Choose people who are committed to supporting this spiritual journey.

If you would like more information or wish to book a Baptism for your child, please join us at 2:00 PM on the third Sunday of the month.
